(KMOV) – A former Caseyville police officer faces charges for allegedly assaulting a woman early Saturday morning.

Jeffrey Wilkerson was charged with domestic battery and aggravated assault.

Collinsville police say officers responded to a report of domestic battery at a home in the 1000 block of Hickory Point around 3:30 a.m.

Upon their arrival, officers talked to both Wilkerson and the alleged victim. Wilkerson was arrested at the scene. Police said he bruised the arm of the victim and used a gun to force her to stay inside a car.

Officials say his employment with Caseyville Police Department ended earlier this month after doctors said Wilkinson was unable to work due to injuries to his head, ankle, and hip that he sustained in a police-involved collision in St. Louis. The incident occurred in 2012. He was approved to receive pension.

Wilkerson was released Monday after posting $15,000 bond.
