A special prosecutor has taken over the case because Alvarez used to work for the St. Clair County State’s Attorney.

In Feb., the Belleville News Democrat posted a three-minute video of the outburst at the center of Alvarez’s trial n the video, Alverez is seen arguing with Caseyville Mayor Len Black. At one point in the YouTube video, Black tells Alverez “I’m sure you ought to be proud of the way you’re acting in front of this crowd as our chief”.

Black has fired Alvarez twice, but he was rehired by the board both times.  The public meeting that the outburst happened at is a meeting where the chief was reinstated.

Black says a final decision on whether the chief will be reinstated for third time could happened during the city council’s 5 p.m. closed session to discuss personnel.
