ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Four St. Louis-area Casa Gallardo restaurants have closed effective immediately, according to a spokesman for Real Mex Restaurants Inc.
Company personnel made the announcement of the closure in person on Thursday afternoon. Real Mex Restaurants employs 16 full-time store managers and 200 part-time servers and cooks.
The four restaurants were the last of the Casa Gallardo restaurants nationwide. The decision to close the restaurants stemmed from the on-going economic downturn, according to the company.
Some of the managers who were laid-off will be offered jobs with local Chevy’s restaurants which is also owned by Real Mex Restaurants. Other workers are being offered a chance to relocate to west coast locations. All of the workers are being offered severance packages and outplacement support.
Casa Gallardo has operated business in the area for more than 35 years. The locations of the restaurants were leased so it is now up to the landlords as to what happens to the properties.
