(KMOV) -- Police have apprehended two suspects and recovered one car after three cars were stolen from the Auffenberg dealership in O'Fallon, Ill. early Friday morning.
Authorities say the thefts happened at the dealership located just south of Interstate 64 around 5 a.m.
Police say the suspects forced their way into the used-car building and stole keys to a silver 2013 Dodge Charger, a black 2011 Chevrolet Camaro convertible and 2013 silver Kia Optima.
According to police, the cars were discovered missing after an off-duty volunteer firefighter saw the three vehicles getting on the I-64 westbound on-ramp from W. Hwy 50.
Two of the cars displayed paper Auffenberg dealership registration and details sheets in the side windows. The firefighter thought it was suspicious and called police.
Police went to the dealership and found someone had broken into both the Affenberg Pre-Owned and Auffenberg Nissan buildings. That's when they discovered the cars missing along with 10 Illinois temporary registration tags.
Police say the incident may be related to other similar thefts in the St. Louis area.
