CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) -- A Cape Girardeau man is charged with suspicion of driving while intoxicated after his car slammed into a police car parked on Interstate 55 as officers responded a man threatening to jump from an overpass.
The incident happened Sunday night. Authorities say Cape Girardeau officer James Zeidler was trying to stop traffic at the overpass where a man was threatening to jump.
Police say a Chevy Tahoe driven by 50-year-old Ronald Bollinger failed to stop and slammed into the patrol car. Zeidler was able to get out just before his car was struck and was not hurt.-
The man on the overpass did not jump but is undergoing evaluation at a hospital.
