BEL RIDGE, Mo. (KMOV) – A toddler was killed Thursday evening after a family member accidentally ran over her in the driveway of a home in north St. Louis County.
Officials say the 2-year-old managed to get outside on her own. Her older cousin was behind the wheel and did not see the girl in the blind zone behind his SUV when he accidentally backed over her.
Paramedics tried to revive Cortae Jones, but the SUV had done too much damage to the child’s body.
She was taken to Children’s Hospital where more than 50 family members gathered together to remember Cortae.
According to Cars.org, at least 50 children in the United States are backed over every week. Most commonly, they are run over by larger vehicles driven by a loved one.Funeral services:
