CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A driver has been hospitalized after crashing their vehicle in Chesterfield Thursday morning.

Police said the accident happened near the intersection of Route 109 and Wildhorse Creek Road around 3 a.m.

According to reports, the driver lost control of their vehicle, left the roadway and rolled down a steep 50-foot embankment.  First responders reported that the vehicle was on its side and resting against a tree when they arrived.

Officials said it took emergency crews a while to reach the victim due to the steep embankment and lack of light.  When they finally reached the victim, they discovered they had been partially ejected from the vehicle.

Arch helicopter was called in to transport the victim to Mercy Hospital.  Authorities report the patient suffered significant injuries, but did not elaborate further.

A firefighter was injured by a fall during the rescue effort.  He or she was treated and released at a local hospital.

There’s no word on what caused the crash.
