EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- A suspect is in custody after his car caught on fire when he wrecked during a police chase in East St. Louis Monday morning.
Authorities said Alorton police tried pulling over the driver of a black Ford Taurus for reckless driving. The driver would not stop and police chased him until the pursuit made its way into a residential area.
Authorities said the suspect then swerved to avoid hitting a school bus and child in the 2200 block of Bond Avenue.
The car clipped another car and SUV, flipped struck a utility pole and caught fire.
The driver of the car fled the scene and was eventually caught by a railroad officer. The suspect had minor injuries.
Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
East St. Louis Police Captain says alcohol appears to have been involved.
