(KMOV) – While most St. Louis residents are ecstatic the Cardinals are back in the World Series for the second time in three years, it could be argued no one is happier than downtown business owners.
The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission estimates each home game will inject $7.9 million into the local economy.
Historically about half the people who go to the World Series are from out of town, meaning one of the biggest benefactors will be local hotels.
The CVC expects hotels to be completely booked throughout most of the St. Louis area.
Downtown businesses are guaranteed at least two home games, as Game 3 and Game 4 will be held on Saturday and Sunday. Game 5 will take place Monday night if necessary.
