The battle between Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul and the city council is escalating.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a special meeting is planned for Wednesday in which the council will consider several charges against Paul, including disclosing confidential personnel information and drinking on the job. Those charges are part of a resolution aimed at removing him from office in the St. Louis County town.

Paul’s attorney, Chet Pleban, says the accusations are part of a witch hunt.

Paul was elected after campaigning against a Wal-Mart development financed with a special taxing district. The project, supported by most of the council, is tied up in court.

Since then, Paul and the council have battled over several matters, including the city manager’s compensation.
