BALLWIN, Mo. -- St. Louis city and county may be weighing a possible merger, but at least one town in the county is opposed to it.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the Ballwin Board of Aldermen voted on Monday night to draft a resolution opposing the merger, with plans to send the resolution to St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, County Executive Charlie Dooley and Better Together, the pro-merger group.

Ballwin Mayor Tim Pogue says he believes the reason for the merger is to “water down the crime statistics” and assist municipalities with financial difficulties.

While the resolution has been drafted, Ballwin aldermen must still approve it. It is on the agenda of the March 24 board meeting.
