MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV) -- Investigators are trying to find the rightful owners of property stolen from a half-dozen homes in northeastern Madison County, Illinois.

Detectives recovered about $7,000 worth of suspected stolen property from 35-year old James Stufflebean, who they say is homeless.

Police recovered a laptop, an acoustic guitar, a video recorder and an antique rectangular-base cello.

Authorities say the burglaries are part of a growing trend of criminals who are stealing to support a drug addiction.

“Typically they end up getting arrested along the way, and no one wants to hire these individuals, so obviously these individuals turn to criminal acts to support their habits,” said Captain Mike Dixon with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information about ownership of the stolen items should contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
