Police: Suspect charged with murder of Cahokia registered sex offender

(KMOV.com) – Authorities say they have arrested a suspect accused of killing a registered sex offender found dead in Cahokia Thursday night.

Muhammed Abuharba, 21, was charged with murder in the death of William Harriel Jr. 

The charges came less than a week after the body of Harriel Jr., 26, was discovered in the middle of the 100 block of Amelia Dr.  Police said Harriel suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

According to police, Abuharba and Harriel lived together. Additional information regarding the arrest was not immediately available.

According to Illinois State Police records, Harriel was previously charged with sexual abuse of a victim between 13 and 16 years old.

Abuharba is in custody at the St. Clair County Jail on a $5 million bond.
