COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- A state audit shows that a Columbia nonprofit has unacceptable spending habits.
The negative review could jeopardize funding for the Boone County Community Partnership, which started 15 years ago and provides assistance for low-income families.
The audit found the organization spent close to $16,000 on copiers and $27,000 on the Internet over 18 months.
The review also showed the executive director and fiscal manager lacked the necessary educational requirements for their jobs.
Auditors also said said the information they were provided was spotty and filled with gaps.
Boone County Community Partnership executive director Lolita Lucas said in a written statement that the nonprofit is trying to improve its accounting practices and rein in wasteful spending.
