(KMOV) -- Authorities said two people were killed in a fiery crash in a freeway construction zone in Frankfurt, Ill., Thursday.

Illinois State Police said seven cars, including three tractor-trailers, were involved in the wreck at about 2 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 57, north of West Frankfort.

Police said the driver of an SUV stopped on the interstate in a northbound lane for construction.  Two trucks were stopped behind the SUV when a tractor trailer flatbed driver alledgedly failed to notice the slowed traffic and rear ended the stopped vehicles.

Three other cars then slammed into the wreckage, including two more semis. Police said the vehicles caught fire and 52-year-old Carl Jones, of Florissant, MO, and 54-year-old Randy Reynolds, of Herrin, IL, were killed. Both were driving tractor trailers.

Other injuries were reported, though the number and the extent of them were not immediately available.
