ARNOLD, Mo. (KMOV) – A Jefferson County man has pleaded guilty to engineering a plot to have his ex-wife’s attorney severely beaten in 2010.

Patrick McCollum, 51, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Madison County Circuit Court to solicitation to commit aggravated assault.

According to court documents, on Dec. 20, 2010, police received a tip that McCollum was attempting to hire someone to injure his ex-wife’s divorce, Harold Johnson.

The next day, an undercover agent met with McCollum at his business, Pat’s Custom Cabinets.

During the meeting, McCollum offered the agent money to beat Johnson with a baseball bat. McCollum gave the officer specific instructions to break numerous bones in his body.

McCollum also gave the agent two cans of pepper spray to use on Johnson.

After McCollum made an initial cash down payment, he was arrested on the parking lot of Wal-Mart on Emporium Drive.

McCollum later admitted to planning the attack after he got a letter and court papers from Johnson to modify prior court orders.
