(KMOV) – Police said an argument over a cigarette led to a stabbing in north St. Louis late Monday night.
Authorities said two men, 33 and 52, were in the 3900 block of Kennerly around 10:45 p.m. when they started arguing about a cigarette.
Police said the argument escalated and the 52-year-old broke a glass plate over the victim’s head. The suspect then stabbed him once in the chest, according to police.
Authorities said the victim was taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The father of the accused man says the fight wasn’t just over a cigarette. He says the victim has stirred up trouble before.
The father says the two men fought, kicking over a coffee table and breaking two large glass plates in the process. Police say the suspect broke a plate over the victim’s head before stabbing him.
