(KMOV) -- An international frenzy started on social media after someone started dropping envelopes full of cash across San Francisco, Calif. last month. Now it appears the movement has made its way to St. Louis.

Using the Twitter handle @HiddenCash314, an anonymous person is giving away cash across St. Louis.

It started in San Francisco with an anonymous benefactor using the Twitter handle @HiddenCash who posted hints and lead followers to envelopes of money.

On Saturday, someone began tweeting from @HiddenCash314, posting hints to the location of free cash in the St. Louis area. The account had more than 1,150 followers by Monday morning, and asked people to follow to get hints to the locations of free cash.

The first drop of cash was picked up in Creve Coeur on Sunday.

Another series of hints were posted on Monday.

The original Hidden Cash’s anonymous creator said his giveaways were a “social experiment for good.” He claimed to make his money off San Francisco’s hot and lucrative real estate market and hopes that winners also “pay it forward.”
