ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The Rev. Lawrence Biondi has long been known as a fighter. Now, he’s in a fight to keep his job as president of Saint Louis University.

Biondi has been involved in plenty of high-profile skirmishes since arriving at the Jesuit university in 1987. He has battled politicians and residents over expansion of the mid-St. Louis campus. He event fought the Vatican to sell the university’s hospital to a for-profit company.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that there have been six votes this fall by different school groups criticizing Biondi or top administrator Manoj Patankar.

At issue is Biondi’s support of tenure reforms and new teacher evaluation rules, along with his support for Patankar, who is unpopular among some faculty.
