ST. LOUIS—The director of admissions at Stevens Institute of Business & Arts in St. Louis is being credited for quick actions that helped save the life of a fellow administrator after last week’s shooting.
Police say part-time student Sean Johnson walked into the school on Jan. 15 and shot financial aid director Greg Elsenrath in a dispute over aid. Johnson then shot himself. Both men survived.
Director of admissions John Willmon, a 30-year Navy veteran, was in his office when he heard the shooting. He rushed to Elsenrath and used paper towel to put pressure on the wound and help stop the bleeding.
Willmon says he’s not a hero, but he credits police and EMTs who responded so quickly and effectively.
