ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV) -- A St. Louis City alderman was killed in a wreck involving three tractor-trailers in St. Charles County on Wednesday.
Police said a pick-up truck hit the back of a tractor trailer truck near the Truman Boulevard exit on Highway 370 in St. Charles County around 12:45 a.m.
Both drivers stopped on the shoulder and two other tractor trailers pulled over to offer assistance.
Authorities said said 27th Ward Alderman Gregory Carter, 54, was driving a UPS truck and rear-ended the third tractor trailer. He was killed on impact.
Authorities arrested the pick-up driver on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. No further information on the driver was released.
Carter comes from a very prominent family with three generations of St. Louis City political figures. He served four terms as an alderman in St. Louis and was running for his fifth term. He also drove trucks for UPS for over 20 years.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for about six hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
