BARRINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- A 70-year-old bicyclist from suburban Chicago is setting off on a 2,500-mile ride along the West Coast in an attempt to raise $1 million for health care causes.
Bob Lee, of Barrington, got a send-off party this weekend for his two-month campaign, which he’s dubbed the “Ride for 3 Reasons.”
He’s raising money for groups that fight cancer and Lou Gehrig’s disease as well as those that provide hospice care.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports it’s the third time he’s set out the fundraising ride. He raised $86,000 in 2001 and $390,000 in 2007.
All the money raised goes to the Les Turner ALS Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the National Hospice Foundation and Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois.
