5 St. Louis teens arrested, guns recovered after string of armed carjackings

(KMOV) – Five teens are in custody for their alleged involvement in five separate robberies in St. Louis over a four-day span.

Police say all the suspects are males ages 16 to 18.

According to police, the first incident happened in the 4700 block of Carter on Friday around 10 a.m.  Police say two men were sitting inside their vehicle when three of the suspects approached on foot. They demanded the victims get out of their car. The victims complied and the suspects drove off.

A day later, a 70-year-old man was pumping gas into his vehicle in the 8800 block of N. Broadway around 4:30 a.m. when an armed suspect approached and demanded money. A struggle ensued and another suspect struck the victim in the head. A shot was fired during the incident and the suspects fled on foot.

On Sunday, one of the suspects then approached a woman in the 4900 block of W. Florissant after she parked her vehicle. The suspect pointed a gun at her and demanded the keys to her vehicle. She handed them over and the suspect drove off.

According to police, a 19-year-old man was getting out of his car in the 2700 block of Gasconade around 11 p.m. when the suspects walked up to him. One of the suspects took out a gun and hit the victim in the head after he refused to hand over his money, phone and car. The victim then complied and the suspect took off in his 2008 Saturn Vue.

About 15 minutes later, two woman were sitting inside a vehicle in the 8800 block of Jordan when the suspects approached and demanded their vehicle. Four of the suspects drove away in the stolen vehicle, with the fifth suspect driving a gray SUV behind them.

Officers later spotted the vehicle and a chase ensued. Police deployed spike strips in the area of Pope and W. Florrisant, disabling the stolen vehicle’s front tire. The suspects kept driving and eventually abandoned the car at Harney and Queens. They were apprehended and taken into custody.

Police say they later found four guns inside the car. According to police, a key to the Saturn Vue was located, but the remaining stolen vehicles remain missing.
