(KMOV) – A 4-year-old girl who was not sitting in a safety seat was ejected from a vehicle after a two-car accident on Interstate 255 near Roxana, Illinois on Tuesday afternoon. A woman and two other children were also injured in the crash.
This happened around 1 p.m. on I-255 and Gateway Commerce Drive.
Authorities said a 25-year-old woman driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer with her children, ages 4, 2, and 2 months inside, was southbound approaching Gateway Commerce Drive.
She told police that she swerved to avoid a metal object in the roadway and lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV went off the left side of the roadway and into the grassy median and overturned. The SUV then entered the northbound lanes of traffic and was struck on the passenger side by the front of a 1997 Chevrolet Medium Duty Truck .
At some point during the crash, 4-year-old Tristynn M. Dillon was ejected from the Trailblazer. She was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon. She is listed in fair condition. Authorities said the child was wearing a seat belt but was not sitting in a child safety seat.
Two-year-old Timothy M. Dillon was taken to Children's Hospital. He is listed in critical condition.
The mother, Jessica S. Dillon, was taken to Alton Memorial. She is listed in serious condition.
Two-month-old Tyler M. Dillon was taken to Alton Memorial with minor injuries.
The 16-year-old male driver of the truck was unharmed.
