GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Three of the four teenagers accused of shooting and killing a man in Granite City last week have been charged.
Markeith Reynolds Jr., 15, Shawn Russell, 15, and Brian Taylor 16, have each been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
A fourth suspect arrested in the case Saturday remains in custody in the Madison County Juvenile Detention Home. Police said because he’s less than 15 years old, his case remains in juvenile court.
A neighbor told News 4 she went outside after hearing three gunshots around 10 p.m. Thursday and found Charles Weiss, 54, in the back yard of the home where he lived along 12th Street.
Police said they believe the shooting happened in an alley between Meridian and Edwardsville.
Weiss was taken to Gateway Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
Friends of the victim say he was a Vietnam War veteran who lived in the neighborhood and was walking back from a nearby convenience store when he was shot.
The neighbor said as she applied pressure to his wounds to stop the bleeding, he told her he was attacked by three or four men.
