(KMOV) – Authorities closed off a neighborhood street while searching for a suspect in Wentzville Wednesday afternoon.

According to Wentzville police, officers responded to a report of a home invasion just after 1 p.m. in the 400 block of Kent which is within blocks of Holt High School and two other schools.

The suspect fled on foot and police began searching the area of Meyer and Northview. At least one officer was spotted with an assault rifle.

Holt High School, East Elementary School and Heritage Primary School were put on lockdown for a short period. The lockdown order has since been lifted.

Officers used K-9 units from St. Charles, and despite a thorough search, officers were unable to find the suspect.

Police describe the suspect as a male in his mid twenties with messy blonde hair.

We’ll be sure to update this story as more details emerge.
