(KMOV) – A parade will be held tonight in downtown St. Louis to celebrate Fat Tuesday, the culmination of Mardi Gras festivities.

The T Mobile Fat Tuesday Parade will start on Washington Ave. and Broadway at 6:30 p.m.  and end at 14th St. It will feature dozens of floats and thousands of beads as people from all over the St. Louis area converge to celebrate.

Several restaurants along Washington Ave. will have happy hour specials and an after party will be thrown at Stadium Sports Bar and Grill beginning at 8 p.m.

Police say those attending the parade cannot bring backpacks, coolers, bottles or cans.

Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday, is the last day before Lent begins Ash Wednesday.
