ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police say three suspects are in custody after they allegedly stole a woman's purse in Soulard, then fled from police. In the same area, police say a suspect robbed a man of his cell phone at gunpoint.

According to police, two male suspects and one female suspect approached a woman at the intersection of 12th and Russell near McGurks. An officer, who also works security for McGurks, saw the incident happen and tried to intervene.

Authorities say one suspect jumped out of a silver Pontiac and tried to steal the woman's purse. When the officer tried to stop the suspect, police say the man jumped back into the car and drove off.

The officer called in police, and they began to pursue the vehicle. The suspects were caught at the intersection of Broadway and Chippewa when they reportedly hit another vehicle and tried to run from police. No one was injured in the crash.

In a separate incident, a man was robbed of his Samsung Galaxy smartphone at gunpoint in the 1900 block of Surbian, which is also in Soulard.

Police say both incidents remain under investigation, but do not appear to be related.
