BUFFALO, Mo. (AP) -- Two people called “persons of interest” in the death of a 15-year-old southwest Missouri girl have been questioned by police and released.

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Rackley says the 24-year-old woman and 39-year-old man voluntarily went to the sheriff’s office Thursday afternoon. They gave statements and were released.

Officials have not said why the two were sought for questioning in the death of Khighla Parks of Willard.

The woman is a Facebook friend of 47-year-old Anthony Balbirnie, who has been charged in Benton County with abandoning a corpse. He doesn’t yet have an attorney.

Khighla’s body was found Sept. 30 in Truman Lake.

Benton County Coroner James Miller said an examination of her body did not reveal a cause for Khighla’s death. He’s now awaiting results of toxicology tests.
