ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Two north St. Louis families have been displaced after their two-family home caught fire early Thursday morning.
The fire started in the 4400 block of Elmbank Avenue around 6:30 a.m., Captain Sutter with the St. Louis Fire Department said.
When firefighters arrived, they saw flames shooting from the back of the home. Fire crews got the fire under control quickly, but the home suffered extensive damage. Captain Sutter said the home is uninhabitable.
The six people who were living inside the home escaped without injury when a neighbor alerted them of the fire.
The Red Cross is assisting the families.
