ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A 14-year-old girl who was shot in the head Sunday night in south St. Louis has died, police announced Tuesday.

Authorities said Corneshia Smith was sitting outside in the 3600 block of Dunnica near Gustine around 10 p.m. when she was struck.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where she later died.

Witnesses say they had heard gunshots earlier Sunday following a fight in the park. The victim’s friend, Teauna Willis, said she was only steps away when her friend was shot.

“They started shooting at us and when she fell she didn’t get back up,” Willis said. “I saw the lights from the gun flashing.”

Police said they have not located any suspects.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at (866) – 371- TIPS.
