BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV) – More than a dozen Belleville West High School students were hospitalized after school bus wrecked in the Metro East on Friday.

Officials said the bus was traveling on southbound Frank Scott Parkway near West Main Streen when it stopped at the railroad tracks.

Police said that’s when a Nissan Armada SUV slammed into the back of the bus.

Officials said 13 students were hospitalized with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. School officials contacted parents of the students involved.

Authorities said the driver of the SUV was an adult female and not a student at Belleville West High School. Police said she received a ticket after the wreck.

Police said 44 people were onboard the bus at the time of the accident.
