ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV) – Crews were working to fix a water main that broke in west St. Louis County on Friday.

The break happened in the 13000 block of Manchester Rd. around 8:30 a.m.

Traffic on was limited to one lane going each way on Manchester between Highway 141 and Barrett Station Rd. Officials expected it to stay that way until sometime Friday evening.

Water company officials said the water main is an old cast iron pipe that was installed in the 1950s. They said they expected more in the years to come due to the age of the infrastructure.

This is the second watermain break on the same stretch of Manchester in the past five days, and the fifth since July. On Monday, pavement buckled at Manchester and Dietrich after a water main broke around 5:30 a.m.

Officials say cold weather was heavily contributing to the breaks.
