Driver airlifted after leaping over guardrail, dropping 50 ft. following wreck

(KMOV) – Authorities say a man trying to flee on foot after wrecking his car near Columbia, Ill. Monday night ended up in a hospital after leaping over a guardrail and falling 50 feet.

According to deputies, Thomas Falk was driving on the ramp from Illinois Route 3 to Interstate 255 around 8:30 p.m. when the accident occurred.

Authorities said Falk then got out of his vehicle and jumped over a guardrail, landing on railroad tracks almost 50 feet below.

Falk was airlifted by Arch helicopter to St. Louis University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

There was no immediate word on any charges.
