BRIDGETON, Mo (KMOV.com) --  Bridgeton Police are searching for the person who fired gunshots into at least three homes in a north St. Louis county neighborhood.  Neighbors tell News 4 that they heard gunfire about 8:30 Tuesday morning in the 11200 block of Old St. Charles Road.

Bullets went through the siding on the three homes and, in one case, the bullet passed through the wall of the house and into a desk.

Resident Polly Hazelwood tells News 4 that she heard what sounded like an explosion and thought something had fallen off a wall.  She then discovered the bullet hole in her wall and the damage to the desk.  She says the slug also tore through a stack of bills in the desk.

"Then a house down the street about a block got shot too so the gunshots were going in both directions," she said. "This way and this way and that way."

One neighbor says he heard eight to ten shots fired.  He says while gunfire is not a common occurrence in the neighborhood it is also not totally unusual.

But for some, the presence of children in the neighborhood means this incident has them on edge.

"Anybody that's firing a gun in public especially around a neighborhood like this doesn't need to have one," said resident Ronald Murphy.

Bridgeton Police are asking anyone with information to call them at (314) 739-7557 or their Crime Tip Line at (314) 373-3876.
