(KMOV) – Four window washers were rescued after their scaffold collapsed while working at a SSM medical building in Richmond Heights on Thursday.

Authorities said the workers were washing windows at the fifth floor of SSM St. Mary's Hospital in the 1000 block of Bellevue when the scaffold gave way around 10 a.m.

Authorities believe rooftop rigging came loose, but the men were attached to harnesses.

Police said three of the workers got back into the building through an open window. The fourth worker dangled close enough to the ground to reach a ladder someone leaned against the building.

Authorities said that worker suffered burns on the hands from grabbing rope.

Additional details were not immediately available.
