What caused school bus to explode on I-70?

School bus catches fire along Interstate 70

(KMOV) – An unoccupied school bus caught fire on the side of Interstate 70 in north St. Louis City Thursday afternoon.

According the driver, she had just dropped off her last student when the Durham bus caught fire on the eastbound lane of I-70 and Salisbury just before 6 p.m.

She was able to get off quickly and was not injured in the fire.

A KMOV viewer captured cell phone video as the fire ripped through the lengthy of the bus and sent heavy smoke and flames into the air. Lanes of I-70 were closed during rush hour to extinguish the fire.

The vehicle was owned by Durham School Bus Company. The bus had just dropped off students from the Parkway School District.

The cause has yet to be determined, but News 4 has learned the 3-year-old bus had just passed inspection two days before the explosion
