(KMOV.com) – A bus driver has been fired after video surfaced showing him texting while driving a bus with students onboard.
The driver’s actions were caught on video. In the video, he can be seen texting with one hand and driving with another as thunderstorms were hitting the area. Students from Saeger Middle School in the Francis Howell School District were on the bus at the time.
In a statement, the school district said it had fired the driver who worked for the First Student Bus Company.
“Safety of our students is our top priority and we will continue to work with First Student to review procedures.”
The incident comes as the US Department of Transportation launches a campaign to crack down on distracted driving.
News 4 attempted to obtain a comment from First Student about the situation, but the company has not responded.
