Two people were injured after a U.S. Navy helicopter made an emergency landing south of Tokyo on Monday and turned onto its side, local media said.

Footage from Japanese broadcaster TV Tokyo showed a helicopter lying in an open area of Miura City, about 50 miles south of Tokyo.

The Kyodo news agency reported two of the helicopter's four-member air crew were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, one suffering bruising and the other a broken leg.

The helicopter attempted the landing in an area of reclaimed land several hundred yards from the nearest residential area after pilots appeared to lose control of the aircraft, Kyodo said.
