KMOV) – A Troy, Mo. couple went to the Better Business Bureau after they paid a contractor to fix their roof but never showed up to do the job.
Vicki Dowling has dealt with a damaged roof for nearly 16 months after hail and strong winds destroyed her roof in March of 2012.
Her insurance stepped in with a check to get the roof repaired after she paid the $1000 deductable.
Dowling paid Branch Builders more than $8,000 to fix her storm-damaged roof but the company has yet to begin the repairs.
The storm ripped the shingles, left hail damage and left the home with several leaking spots across the roof.
Dowling and her husband say they tried to contact Branch Builders but they no longer can reach them by phone or email.
News 4 tracked down the business to a South County home but no one answered.
The Better Business Bureau gives the firm an F grade citing two unanswered complaints.
They also offered some advice on being careful when selecting a contractor.
“You want to follow the rule of thirds, pay a third at the time you sign the contract, a third when they’re halfway done and a third when the job is completed to your satisfaction.”
A week after this story aired, a representative from Branch contacted News 4. They said a contract dispute with the couple's insurance company is holding up the repair job. They added they are attempting to get the money they need to fix the roof but the homeowners are now refusing to communicate with them. The company representative says they will attempt to contact the homeowners again.
