A dog stranded on a Houston, Tex. highway got a little help from a stranger, and it was all caught on camera.
The yellow lab along the Eastex Freeway didn’t stand a chance, until Rickey Young showed up.
“They just said caution for a dog in the HOV lane,” Young recalled.
He had heard about a problem on the radio and and rushed to solve it.
“Yeah I’m kind of a softy on that stuff. I have a dog and I would hate to see him on a highway like that,” he said.
Cameras captured the whole thing. The skittish dog first backed away, obviously real scared, before Young pulled out a sandwich.
Within minutes, she was in his truck and they were off to the Houston SPCA.
“I could see that she was thankful and she was happy to be in a safer environment,” Young said.
Though his safety was definitely a concern as traffic sped by, his promptness may have made all the difference.
Vets said the dog had broken bones and internal bleeding and was in desperate need of care.
They don’t believe the dog has an owner, since she doesn’t have a chip. But she has something now she doesn’t have before: a shot.
