An Oklahoma man is dead after contracting a virus that originated in Missouri.

Doctors say the man contracted the Heartland Virus through a tick bite. The virus was first identified in Missouri in 2009. Symptoms of the virus include fever, fatigue, bruising easily and diarrhea.

Officials say the man who died is among 10 patients diagnosed. One of those patients is from Missouri, but has since recovered.
