FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Missouri State Senator Maria Chapelle-Nadal has a strong message for Missouri Governor Jay Nixon.
Chapelle-Nadal took to Twitter to vent her anger over Nixon’s response to situation in Ferguson. Chapelle-Nadal said she is feeling the pain of the people of Ferguson. Chapelle-Nadal has been in Ferguson since Saturday, when Michael Brown was shot and killed by a Ferguson police officer.
Nixon arrived in Ferguson Thursday. Chapelle-Nadal wished he had arrived much earlier.
“This is Gov. Nixon’s Katrina. President Bush never went to Katrina,” Chapelle-Nadal said.
Chapelle-Nadal said she hopes the strongly worded tweet will get attention, raise consciousness and focus attention on those who she believes are being denied their constitutional right to protest and assemble.
“I want him to come down here and talk to these youngsters,” Chapelle-Nadal said.
Nixon responded to the tweet at a press conference Thursday.
“I would rather put gas in vehicle, instead of throwing it on a fire,” Nixon said.
Chapelle-Nadal said she is going to be with the demonstrators until the demonstrations end.
