CHESTERFIELD, Mo (KMOV.com) -- Thieves appear to be targeting a specific vehicle and removing the catalytic converters.

The Jim Butler Kia dealership in Chesterfield got hit over the weekend when thieves removed 19 catalytic converters.

All of the vehicles targeted were Kia Sorento SUVs.

Sales manager Austin Richards told News 4 that he’s aware of similar crimes in other states but believes it’s the first time KIA Sorentos have been targeted on such a large scale at a local dealership.

Another interesting point, the thieves didn’t cut the devices off as is so often the case, but took the time to use tools to remove them from the vehicles.

Catalytic converters on a KIA Sorento costs $1500 to replace. Police are asking anyone who may have seen something or knows about this crime to call the Chesterfield Police Department.
