(KMOV) -- News 4 continues following a growing St. Louis crime trend: brazen thieves targeting multiple vehicles in well-lit and populated areas.
St. Louis police said two such incidents happened in the city overnight.
Sources told News 4 at least 15 cars were broken into in the 4940 block of West Pine in Forest Park between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
Police have not confirmed what was taken from the vehicles, which were parked close to the softball and baseball fields along Interstate 64.
Shortly after midnight, police responded to a parking lot near Beale and Broadway in downtown St. Louis where thieves broke into more than a dozen cars. Police said most of the victims were inside a nearby nightclub when the crimes happened.
Sunday’s break-ins mark the third time in three weeks police have investigated multiple break-ins in Forest Park.
In mid-July, nine Muny employees’ cars were broken into on the upper lot. Another five vehicles—including an off-duty police officer’s personal SUV—were hit while parked at The Muny on Wednesday.
