(KMOV) – Authorities have a teenager in custody; accused of stealing wrapped presents from under the tree of a north St. Louis home.
Normandy police arrested Leonard Dailey, 18, after he and another man burglarized two homes over the last two weeks.
In the most recent case, Dailey and his partner were accused of breaking into a home on Winchelsea Drive and making their way into the family’s living room while they were at church. The suspects left nothing but wrapping paper in their trail, allegedly getting away with new clothes, electronics and shoes.
“It looked like somebody else had our Christmas. All the packages open, all the paper everywhere just like my kids had been in there,” said Timothy Lilly. “The first thing I thought about was my kids because they fell to the floor, they were so distraught.”
Along with the presents, Lilly said the burglars nabbed his son’s video game console as they ran from the home.
Police say just days before, Dailey and an accomplice broke into the home of Douglas Cary. In this case, the suspects walked in on Cary’s wife, who was home at the time.
“All of a sudden someone stuck their head around the kitchen wall and she screamed and he was just was surprised as she was,” said Cary.
Cary did not report anything stolen from his home.
“We don’t want this to be a black eye on their Christmas we want them to say okay Christmas still turned out good we're together as a family and we're alive and we love each other,” said Lilly.
Lilly said they have been receiving some gifts from the community and it is appreciated.
The second suspect wanted for these crimes is still on the run.
