(KMOV) -- Two alleged thieves are behind bars charged with snatching cell phones right from the hands of MetroLink passengers.

Delas Carter, 23, and Roderick Roberson Jr., 21, were each charged Wednesday with robbery and theft.

News 4 spoke exclusively with one of the victims.

“I think I was more in shock the first second and then he was out the door and I was like he stole my phone,” said Brian Michalowski.

Michalowski said he was riding home from school near the Washington Park MetroLink Station Thursday, reading the news on his phone, when a man grabbed it from him and took off.

St. Clair County Sheriff Richard Watson said two similar robberies happened near MetroLink stations in the Metro-East.

The suspects, he said, look for easy targets: people sitting near the doors who are using their phones and not paying any attention.

"You got to remember these folks are looking for crimes of opportunity. If you make easy for them, they're going to take advantage,” Sheriff Rick Watson said.

Sheriff Watson said both suspects could potentially be linked to other robberies in the area.

A St. Clair County judge set Carter’s bond at $50,000.  Bond for Roberson Jr. was set at $40,000.

Both suspects are being held at the St. Clair County Jail.

Sheriff Watson would also like to remind the public to be aware of their surroundings and exercise caution when using their cellular phones in public places.
