Authorities have arrested a suspect they believe is responsible for 10 air conditioning unit thefts in south St. Louis County in October.

James Brown, 34, was charged with second-degree burglary and stealing over $500.

According to police, McBride Homes on Oct. 25 reported someone had stolen a refrigerator from one of the company’s newly-completed houses in the 6100 block of Pathfinder. The thief also turned off the gas and water.

Police say four days later an officer stopped Brown, who was driving a vehicle driving without headlights on behind South County Mall. He had active warrants from Illinois for burglary and stealing and was taken into custody.

Authorities say they later took his fingerprints and identified him as the suspect in the initial home burglary.

Police say they are investigating whether he’s involved in other thefts.

His bond was set at $50,000.
