2 dead, 1 injured in southern Ill. bank robbery
(KMOV.com) – Police have a suspect in custody for a deadly bank robbery that left two women dead and another in critical condition on Thursday night.
Police say the suspect, 29-year-old James Watts, entered the First National Bank of Cairo through a side door on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. armed with a knife and a handgun for an armed robbery.
While inside the bank, Watts allegedly stabbed three women, killing two of them and critically injuring a third.
Police identified the two victims as Anita Grace, 52, of Olive Branch, Ill. and Nita Smith, 52, of Wickliffe, Ky.
Officers say Watts was later tracked down in a car that was owned by one of the women.
The injured employee was transported to an area hospital and undergoing treatment.
The investigation is ongoing.
