Suspect at large after robbing Highland bank employee at gunpoint

(KMOV) -- Police are looking for a suspect who held a woman up at gunpoint at a Highland bank on Friday.

Highland Police Chief Terry Bell told News 4 an employee was attending to an ATM outside the Bradford Bank in the 1100 block of Woodcrest around 8 a.m.

Police say she was holding money when a man wearing a bandana walked up behind her, put a gun to her head and took the money.

The suspect took an undertmined of cash enclosed in an ATM box and fled east on foot.

Authorities were searching for the suspect using a police plane and K-9 units. Several other agencies, including Illinois State Police and the FBI, were assisting in the search.

Highland High School, Highland Middle School and St. Paul Elementary were among several schools in the area placed on lockdown while the suspect was being sought.

Police say the suspect was described as a 6-foot tall white man who weighed about 180 pounds. He was wearing a black and white bandana over his face, a dark baseball hat, dark coat, jeans and dark shoes.
